Magnet Boards

I finally finished my fabric covered magnet boards.  I think I like them too much to sell.  I hate when this happens!  The first baroque style magnet board began its life as a mirror.  Someone had painted it a shocking pink when I found it. A lot of elbow grease, my favourite pale blue paint, vintage fabric and voila!  A fancy, dancy way to display stuff.
The burlap board was inspired by an old grain sack that I saw in a French country magazine.

I love, love, love the window that I used to create the last board here. It came from and old (Victorian?) house in Quebec.

Urban Craft Show

The show was a great success!  Now I'll have to recreate for the next.

Spring Cloches

I decided to put some of my favourite antique dishes to good use as the bases for these cloches.  Vintage knobs made great handles.  I love using antique images whenever I can and thought these beautiful birds would make wonderful cards.

Idle Hands Holiday Craft Show

I will be taking part in another Idle Hands Craft Show.  So many talented artists and crafters will be there!  I can't wait to buy some yummy baked goods and chocolates too (vendors get very hungry!).  Here's the info:

Idle Hands Craft Show is a unique holiday gift sale of local handmade items. Something for everyone, naughty and nice.

Admission is $2

Saturday, November 26th, 2011 from 10:00-5:00.

St. Lukes's Church

760 Somerset St. West in the heart of funky China town.

THIS IS A CASH ONLY EVENT

We are looking forward to seeing you at the show. It is a great opportunity to buy quality, one of a kind, handmade holiday gifts for those on your list or perhaps find a few things for yourself. Or just come and be inspired to make some gifts of your own.

Idle hands is about giving local artist and crafters an opportunity to sell things they love to make, to connect with other creative people and sell their wares at reasonable prices without a middle man. It is also a place for people to come see and meet some of the regions best independent talent and buy directly from them. Why would you go to the mall and buy factory made massed produced items that have been shipped here from half way around the world?

This year we have included some local photographers, painters and print makers. We have some delicious vegan baking and chocolates. Preserves made using recipes that have been passed down generations. There will also be gorgeous knits and felted work made into clothing, hats and children's toys. Jewellery made with silver, wood, upcycled vintage and other mixed media pieces. Clocks, pillows and other home decor items. Screen printed shirts, scarves and upcyled clothing. Recycled leather wallets, purses and bags. Collage work, cards and stationary. Soaps, face and body care products made with natural essential oils. Beautiful ceramics and hand blown glass. New this year we're featuring seasonal floral creations. The list is endless and all items are handmade.

We are also fundraising  for the Cambridge ST School Outdoor Classroom.
More info on this and our list of vendors to be announced soon.

More Numbers

Last Saturday I found this beautiful antique piece of furniture destined for the trash on my neighbour's driveway. I quickly sanded it and chose a beautiful grey paint to cover it with.  I love the old hardware and will save it for another project.  I chose some pewter colored cup pulls for the drawers and a vintage style font for the numbers.  Two coats of varnish were applied at the end.  I should have taken a before picture....I always forget in my haste to create something new!

Number Pillows

I keep seeing the most wonderful number pillows all over the place and I thought it was high time that I created some of my own.
I was able to locate quite a few yards of vintage linen that I knew would make a great backdrop for the numbers.  A beautifully textured grey fabric was paired with the linen to give it more of an industrial look.
Hope to make quite a few more before my next show!

Pillow Frenzy

This pillow was inspired by some old grain sacks I had seen.

My inventory is starting to run a bit low...time to ramp up for the christmas season! I was busy working away on these over the long weekend.
